No offense dude, nice work. Airbrush? It has way too many Giger nuances, or pretty much direct rip offs from his work.

You're saying it's your original work?

I like it. And it IS his original work. Geiger didn't paint it so it not Geigers.
You should Check out Beksinsky, or Fuches, then you can tell Geiger he ripped them off.
Art begets Art.

Thanks Guys,

I have thousand of pieces that I haven't uploaded yet. I'm relatively new to email and internet, my friend takes care of all of thi stuff for me but if you want to see more of my work, please viit my webite.

http://www.kdmatheson.com

I will have my friend upload more full sized work, for some reason they chose this piece out of the 5 or so pieces that I had my friend upload, I think that when I tried, the pieces were too big to upload so I will ak my friend to take care of it so you can see that I do much more than Gieger or Fuches referenced artwork. But I do take that a a compliment.

Sorry guys, if u look at it and compare, its Giger. If anyone takes themeselves seriously as an artist wouldnt rip off this directly. The monsters, the grey tone, airbrush strokes, spikes, architectural smooth snake like bodies, metamorphosis of the snake bodies to the monsters and such; its direct rip offs. Soo direct its as if he picked up the books and made references while painting.

Other artists, or for example Giger as stated before may have borrowed ideas but like all serious artists made it their own with fresh ideas. Their own signature style. This one here has a signature style but its not yours.

Referenced artwork isnt art. Neither as a compliment. Referencing something already printed and made over and over is a done deal. New art is fascinating and real.

Ok, I may be harsh. Im sorry if I am, but it would be more recognizable for u as an artist to not waste time recreating rather than creating.

Figment,

I respect your opinion, I honestly don't intend to rip off anyone. I honestly do take it as a compliment that someone would compare my work to Giger, sorry if that bothers you. You should understand that this is only a clipping of the entire piece. It's less than half the size of the rest of the piece, not that it would influense your decision.

I've browsed through some giger and Fuches; however, this isn't ever my inspiration. I don't sit with a book and think how I can alter these works to be my own. I don't own any art books at all. I'm too busy painting.

This particular piece was one of an era of b&W airbrushed works that I did well over 15 years ago.

I've tried to submit more work for people to get more of an idea of my style, because it really is a unique style if you could see it all.

I literally have a couple thousand pieces from sculpture to Airbrush, to Pen and pure painting, Painter and Photoshop.

Perhaps, this piece looks a like Giger to you, I made it so long ago that I don't remember all the stuff I was thinking about when I made it.

It is definately real art and in fact, for sale.

Sorry you feel the way you do, soon I will hopefully have more of my pieces uploaded so that you can get more of a broader taste for my art.

In the meantime, if you wish, you can check out my website that my friend put together http://www.kdmatheson.com . I haven't been able to have him keep it up to date and I just have no idea how to do it myself but it has enough works for you to possibly feel differently about my perspective and the way I do things.

I welcome all comments good or negative and I just would like to thank you for taking the time out to critique my work. It's fascinating to me to hear anything about it because I literally paint all day and unless I'm working on someone's wall or a storefront, etc... I don't really hear too much about it except from my friends and they are biased, or they actually love my works.

I have been compared to Giger, Fuches, and a couple others before but like I said, I do take it as a compliment.

All of my work is original, you will not find a copy of any sort from any other artist. If it looks like Giger then that's how you perceive it and I take it as a compliment. Once I really got into color, things really changed dramatically for me and I sincerely hope you like some of my color pieces better.

I don't resent anyone's opinion, I enjoy hearing about it so please feel free to compare but make no mistake about it, all of my work is self inspired, I see it and I paint it. I don't look at other's artwork for hours or anything like that before I take on a piece. I'm not a ripp off artist by any means. It's all just what I see in my head while painting and I extend upon that.

You should understand, I work on 3 to 4 pieces at a time, my walls are covered with works in progress that I address when I see a new element or get a new idea. It all comes from within, not from any other infulence, even my portraits.

Thanks for your critique. Sorry you are unhappy with my single piece that you've seen. I kind of wish that the editors would have picked a more recent color piece as my first on the gallery. I hope you feel better about the 30 other pieces I've submitted.

Take care for now and no offense taken.

Kindly,
KD Matheson

Ok its cool, im happy I presented my opinion. And I respect all my fellow artists, so in a drawn out conclusion Kudos to you my friend. I really hope u didnt take my talk as an attack, but merely like a "table conversation".

It reminds me of the other artist. This is all.. And I have seen ur other works and i still can say there is an influence. But who isnt influenced??? No one.

KD, I'm blown away by your website! Not to beat the dead horse, but some of your work could be put in a Giger catalogue and no one would know the difference...yes, I think you're that good. If you paint what you see in your head it scares me that there's some dark force out there putting ideas & styles in both your heads... ;-)

Makkens,

Thank your positive feedback, sorry I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to log on.

Yeah, I get plenty of feedback about having some dark force connection who guides my hand. It's ironic.

I really hope someday to be able to do plates for film production.

I've done some good stuff with PS and painter but the little pad I have makes it frustrating to use. It's very disorienting and hard to get used to but if I had a Cintique that I could paint directly on the screen, I'm sure I could get really into Painter and churn out very detailed film plates in a couple hours. I can see how the process could exponentially increase my speed!!!!!!!

I'd appreciate any advice on how to get more involved in doing that. I know I need to make a reel but I have no idea which pieces to put on it????

If many people compare my work to Giger, I might as well design the looks for the types of movies that Giger did and make Giger dollars!!!!!!!

Thanks again,

KD

You actually joined today and post your first post just to insult me?

What a crock.

All I can say is WOW! This is actually pretty awesome work. I checked out your site and your other submissions and I'm surprised you don't have more work up here.

For those of you who think that this is a rip off you must be jealous or insane because this is very complex art and even though it is abstract, it definitely has it's own style. Just because it is detailed, odd, and B&W doen't mean it is a ripoff. I'm really surprised that anyone would think this is a ripoff of anyone's art considering that most of the art on this forum looks like something someone else has done, very conventional, or dull. At least this is original and albiet interesting.

I've also taken the liberty to look up your submissions. While I hasten to point out that those of you who have really unnecessarily criticized this guy he has at least posted 7 or 8 pieces of intense work that looks like it took weeks to make. How many have the idiots that have given you such terrible critiques posted? Zip zero nada none, LOL HAAA Just a pack of jealous ninnys!

Man, don't let any of these "no talent bozos" get you down dude, you are wayyyy too talented and it's obvious that when people sign up and make their first post just to criticize you that they are jealous idiots.

Keep on trucking dude and please add more of your recent work to the WIP gallery, it's f'in awesome! I just don't think too many people understand how much goes into what you do. I'm no where near that level and there are probably a lot of jealous people out there because when the editor puts a piece up here they get really nasty sometimes, picking it apart piece by piece because their piece didn't get chosen. Please post more!

Best of luck,

Christian Choi

Choi oh boy u dont know what ur talking about. I rip off is actually better off as a nothing btw, no jealousy here I would have told him the same if he was standing in front of me. And for the no posts, just u wait. Good research Choi, but as far as research in the art is quite lacking or u as an artist is also in huge question if u think this original...

But being part of the art community I would take being criticized, but i know as a fact it wouldnt be for direct copies off of somebody elses work.

Keep trucking Choi!

OMG, you have me shaking in my boots fig. Actually I'm laughing my ass off because you don't have any idea of what you are talking about nor do you have any references of "art" to back up you being a master critique as you obviously think you are. You probably think Modrian is great art.

This is by far not a rip off and displays some very skilled traits in an artist. Considering it was done in 1993, I'm sure the artist has come a long way since then. You're just a nutter who has no idea what their talking about.

I'm sure it was you who signed up just to post that again. Do yourself a favor and get a life man.

"Oh boy, just you wait" I'm waiting, what are you gonna do, critique my critiques? LOL

Why put skill in something already done? And done with skill? Im denying skill here, just subject matter. I have many works sitting in my basement i did in f'ing basement i did in highschool. Point is skill is put towards something original not a done that thing. Not even that but referenced piece by piece. If u think referencing is original then im flabbergasted.
